Beautiful dark bright blues, reds, white and browns a veritable cornucopia of colors and accents very
traditional colored Bergama motif work. Uncharacteristically, this Bergama is larger and more rectangular than usual. However,
with indubitable Bergama motifs and wonderful border motif work. This rug has a great deal of Bergama, but also is somewhat
more Yoruk and has some fascinating almost Dosemealti about it also. Is this a training rug ? Some evidence supports this,
almost as if the weaver was from 2 different backgrounds, and wanted to evidence it in this rug. The reverse scorpion
motifs on this rug are extraordinary, I have never seen work like this before, I suppose it intimates a 'hidden' scorpion,
its there none the less and to an unturored eye looks like there is a blemish on the rug until the significance is pointed
out on the reverse of the rug. The 2 most common motifs, are the the camel and scorpion very common in 'nomadic'
rugs, and this one is no exception. The center of this rug comprises 1 central stepped diamond medallion containing a variety
of different motifs. Some of the photography shows dappling sunlight on the rug. This
is a very big and very densely woven rug and is extremely heavy approximating 40 pounds in weight. Some of the photography shows dappling sunlight on the rug. This

Incredible Yahyali 'Village'
prayer rug so known because of its depictions of houses and mosques, its a vintage rug, Circa 1940's. Beautiful
strong madder root darker reds, and characteristic blues and golds with cream colored border motif work. They are masterpieces, and acknowledged as such amongst rug connaisseurs Known as one of the premier weaving villages in Central Anatolia. Yahyali is located
south-east of Nigde, which is known for the fine knotting technique employed by expert tribal weavers, this hand-knotted
and vegetable extract dyed rug has approximately 150 KPSI Turkish double knots characteristically for a Yahyali it has incredibly
dense weaving occasioning its 30 pound weight. So what is different about
this rug, well, for a start, its a 'village' rug, not many of these ever surface recently, this is only the second
one I have had in 2 years. But, its also more unique than that, its constructed as a prayer rug also just look at the
construction........ and that is a first, at least for me, this is UNIQUE and very valuable to a collector. This rug is pristine with beautiful short tasseling work at each end.

Turkish double knotted approx 100KPSI the pile is lusterous and EXTREMELY thick giving
this rug quite a weighty feel to it. The wool is delighful and thick, giving this rug a sensous feel often not found, the
thick, silky pile gives an extremely pleasing feel to bare feet.A
wonderful Eastern Turkish weaving from a little known and exotic area of TURKIYE. The main features of this rug
are the 4 medallions which honestly have a very Persian influence, which although not common amongst Sivas rugs does
make this a unique weaving.Motifs of Palmettos and rosettes fill
the field and the border is mysterious and honestly amongst my thousands of references I can find nothing to fit a description
accurately, which is why I attribute some nomadic influence to it. There are many other Sivas characteristics to this rug,
in the open natural wool main field, the predominace of pinks and greens in its construction. It is in marvellous condition, no tears, rips or exposed pile, there are no worn areas. Typical
one cord Selvage and bound tassling are also A1.

Contrary to most modern sought after rugs, this masterpiece of art is dyed in a special process in order to achieve
the vivid colors in this piece. A sought after masterpiece of Kayseri art, which is Circa 1960, and yet is in totally immaculate
condition, clearly having never been used as floor decor Examples like this are almost impossible
to find today and this is only 1 of 2 that I have ever had available. At the turn of the 20'th century the town of Kayseri
in Anatolia was the only area using this technique to achieve what feels like, looks like and inherintly is 'Silk'
but in actuality is a silk-like fiber called mercerized cotton or Floss, floss yarn can only be dyed with a chemical dye as
this is the only dye the fabric will accept. Much beloved of the West the first and then second World Wars killed mass tourism
from America and Western Europe to the 'East' and this art form clearly almost died away.
The Kayseri floss carpets with silk looking yarns in bright colours, have found favour with Europeans
with their attractive designs. They look very many like silk carpets to foreigners. The sizes, designs and number of knots
are the same as Bünyan carpets, but the large sizes are rather rare. In the floss carpets chemical dyes are used, because
the yarn (floss) can only be dyed with chemicals. Cotton is used as warp and weft and floss is used for the knots. These carpets
are considered the masterpieces of Kayseri and as such are sought out by dealers to sell to the foreign trade.

Dazkiri rugs have not been made
for decades now, which makes this Vintage Dazkiri/Dazgiri even more valuable, even in Turkiye it nearly impossible to find
a Dazkiri which is not fragmented or heavily used; this work of art is virtually unused clearly having been kept by the original
family as a showpiece for exceptional occasions only. So different, huge white field containing a fascinating rod medallion
in walnut brown, other muted browns and creams and framed with a peach colored floral border, just so so different. Dazkiri is located just west of Isparta in Southwestern Anatolia, it is close to the Aegean sea,
in the province of Afyonkarahisar. Many references tell of this region using 'unusual' yellows, peaches, browns and
oranges not seen commonly elsewhere. This hand-knotted and vegetable extract dyed rug has approximately 256 KPSI in exceptionally
fine Turkish double knots, characteristically for a Dazkiri its incredibly dense weaving occasions its weight. The border
work has influences from proximity to the Milas area. The pile is very low cut, also a Hallmark
and thus shows off the beautiful intricacies of this rug, and by turning the rug over to inspect the back you can see what
wonderful workmanship created this work of art. Barry O'Connell shows the attributes of a Dazkiri (click on link) in an 18'th century example in his JBOC'S notes on Oriental Rugs, which was auctioned for 18,500
EURO's in 2007, and in which the colors and border work are almost an exact replica of that in this
piece. This rug is a UNIQUE pristine MUSEUM quality
piece with beautiful short tasseling work at each end.
