This is a marvellous New Afgan Khal Mohammadi Carpet He and his workforce are prolific weavers with several looms in Afganistan probably HQ'd in Mazar i Sharif. The upshot is, his style is very distictive, with very impressive results from natural dyes in dark reds and blues, as does this example. Well, this is a new rug (10-15 years old) and unused, a lot of so called "unused" Afgan rugs I have received from dealers are clearly not, and very very dusty ie. having been laid out for some time, take it from me Afganistan is incredibly dusty. This is not, its beautifully made and constructed. Technically, approximately 80 KPSI Turkish knots, wool on wool with 1 inch kilim weaving at each end, excellently bound 2-cord selvage overcast with black goat hair. I have tested the wool and to the best of my knowledge this is naturally dyed. The pile is thick and cut to 1/4 Inch length, exceedingly dense weaving which occasions its impressive 45 pound weight. The 12 medallions in the main field are unquestionably Esari as is the main border of Stepped Gables. Throughout the main field and even in the Gables are interestingly Uzbek motifs. Overall a superior work which will grace any floor.

This classic Baluchi prayer rug design has a 'Tree of Life' design centrally in the mighrab. Balouchi rugs are firm in their weave with bold drawings and rich deep colors as is this example. Within the Mighrab, this Prayer Rug has a wonderful almost peachy tint to the background accentuating thefield repeat designs.  This is a ground-loom hand woven naturally dyed rug in captivating nomadic ancient designs, A wonderful mix of weaving styles and impactive harmonious design.  With intricate colorful lines of border demarkation in different colors of carnations and a an intertwined vine leaf pattern in the outside border, this is a truly an interesting work of Persian Tribal art. It is totally naturally dyed (Vegetable), hand-woven on most likely a small dismantalable vertical wooden loom.  This Medallion has Afgani Herat pictorals and there are some of the other motifs, but the border is unquestionably Quashqa'i Tribe are the kilim weavings at each end which are decorated in the Qashqa'i VAI Frieze domino pattern, which is Turkmen and basically depicts the 5 tennets of Islam.So many aspects of Tribal Confederacy rugs share identities.  The white in the medallion, is undyed wool.   This is a very strong 'earthy colored' beautiful example of tribal art and a unique item.   The owner of this rug will have a very significant piece of 50 year old Fars Province Confederacy of Tribes' art

In typical Luri design it has a field defined by its medallions and yet filled with other geometrical designs and depictions of flowers. The intricacy within the medallions if indicative of some Afshari influences, but wonderfully bright colors and resonances make this a stunning and captivating work of art. Extraordinary KURDISH JAFF TRIBAL Vintage rug Circa. 1950's. Beautiful dark burgundy, gold, reds, white and browns a veritable cornucopia of colors and accents very traditional Kurdish Jaff animal head repeat border. This is a naturally dyed, hand woven wool on a cotton base rug. The pile is exceptionally dense and luxurious. There are 'hands on hips' mother goddess fertility symbols, hair combs, together with bird symbol which bring good news, pomegranate fruit which is sacred and evocative of the fruit inside the house of a bride will bring a long-lasting and productive (children) marriage, then also and most importantly the water of life symbols indicating immortality, to take this cup of water strengthens the old and infirm and transforms girls into the most beautiful of women. This rug is a book written by the weaver full of her desires.

Extraordinary Antique Baluch/Timuri TRIBAL Rug This Rug is more than 100+ years old. It was acquired by an American Diplomat traveling in those regions in the 1930's and for the vast majority of time has been hidden from sight stored in a cedar chest.  This is a very, very old piece and so it has 1 small 1/2 by 1/2 inch pile area of damage, probably from insects, but this would have happened prior to its purchase. My estimation is that it is more than 100 years old. It is very robustly woven with woollen warp and weft and wool pile. Selvages are tightly bound black goat hair. Motifwork, strikingly tribal and although there are a mix of styles, its mostly Timuri Tribe. This is extremely tightly woven, very closely interwoven pile.

Antique Esari Tribal SaddleBag Size 3' 11" X 2' 2"

Antique Turkoman Esari TRIBAL SaddleBag This saddle-bag is more than 100+ years old. It was acquired by an American Diplomat traveling in those regions in the 1930's and for the vast majority of time has been hidden from sight stored in a cedar chest. This is a very, very old piece and so it has some slight damage to the pile, probably from insects, but this would have happened prior to its purchase. My estimation is that it is more than 100 years old.The Jute/Hemp backing to this piece identifies its age. Cotton which has been used as a backing/warp and weft was more commonly used in the 20'th century.In this case, a 19'th century woven bag, the Jute was always used because it was considerably more robust and would stand the vagaries of time and usage.It is very robustly woven with a backing of jute and wool pile. Selvages are tightly bound goat or perhaps camel hair.The bags are supplemented by woven bag fastenings, latches to fasten to the animal and decorative tassles.Motifwork, strikingly tribal and although there are a mix of styles, its certainly Turkoman most likely Esari Tribe from northern Afganistan. This is extremely tightly woven, very closely interwoven pile.The kilim weaving is sumak, which is best explained as a kind of embroidery flat weave. Bound tassling is somewhat worn.

This is a striking Antique Turkoman Esari Tribal saddle-bag from the wilds of northern Afganistan This saddle-bag is easily 80+ years old. Selvages are tightly bound goat hair. Bags are supplemented by woven bag fastenings, latches to fasten to the animal and decorative tassles. Motifwork, strikingly tribal and although there are a mix of styles, its certainly Esari Tribe. Inner and outer borders are framed in the "domino pattern" 5-tennets of Islam: The Five Pillars of Islam (Arabic: أركان الإسلام) is the term given to the five duties incumbent on every Muslim. These duties are Shahadah (profession of faith), Salat (prayers), Zakat (giving of alms), Sawm (fasting, specifically during Ramadan) and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). These five practices are essential to Muslims. This piece is in marvellous condition for its age.  Selvage and bound tassling are also A1. This is a beautiful collectors Saddle-Bag.
